2nd Grade - Online

Last update 3/20/20

Please read the information for all grades on the "School Closure & Science Lessons" page first.

Remember - only do what is reasonable for your child.

For now all 2nd grade work is being graded "done" / "not done".

The district has asked us not to introduce anything new from 3/15 to 3/28. We want to give everyone time to get used to doing work on-line.

No work will be given a bad grade for being late, but if you want to be sure it is graded - you should try to turn it in by the suggested due date.

Join the Google Classroom For Science

To use Google Classroom please:

  1. Go to and click Sign In. Sign in with your school Google Account. For example, (If you don't know this, please e-mail
  2. At the top, click Add or "+". Join class.
  3. Enter the class code  xi4kj2o for 2nd grade science

"To Do": Do these first. Dates are guidelines only.

"Turn In": I am only "collecting" about one paper a week. If you are using Google Classrooms, do them there, it will be easier. Or print it out and E-mail it to your teacher. Again, just do your best. I understand you may not have a printer, reliable internet, etc.

to do

ASAP Join google classroom - see instructions on the left.

3/29 - 4/4 Mystery Sci: How could you stop a landslide?

4/5 - 4/11 Make a "sand" castle and destroy it by spraying water on it or blowing on it though a straw. You are simulating weathering (breaking up rocks) and erosion (moving small rocks / landslides). Now rebuild the sandcastle and reinforce it with some simple items like toothpicks, a 2" square of plastic wrap, a popsicle stick, some pebbles etc. Can you make it more resistant to weathering and erosion? If you don't' have sand, try mud, cornmeal, mashed potatoes - get creative!

4/12 - 4/18 spring break - enjoy!

Turn in - do in Google Classroom

ASAP -  Join google classroom (instructions on left)

4/4 E-mail or use google classroom to share your ideas from the MS on how to stop a landslide

4/11 Use words or pictures to explain what you did that helped your sandcastle resist weathering (falling apart).

E-mail the picture to Ms. Johnson or Mr. Waller. Be sure to put your name and room number on your work!
