Writing Process and Projects

Grade 2 Writing

Please read the attached document and familiarize yourself with the writing process, and what your child will be expected to do in second grade.  Your support is essential for your child's success!

Writing Rubric (Grade 2/Narrative)

I have provided you, along your child, a writing rubric for a narrative writing paragraph. This is a very important piece to follow so that your child may decide what grade they want to receive, and what the specific expectations are for each element of their writing, so that they may earn THAT grade.  This is a great tool to offer guidance, and a clear understanding on what you will need to write your paragraph, and receive a passing score!

Writing Rubric (Grade 2/Explanatory)

I have provided you, along your child, a writing rubric for an explanatory writing paragraph. This is a very important piece to follow so that your child may decide what grade they want to receive, and what the specific expectations are for each element of their writing, so that they may earn THAT grade.  This is a great tool to offer guidance, and a clear understanding on what you will need to write your paragraph, and receive a passing score!

Make A Wish Letter Writing Campaign

Click the link and submit your letter in seconds!!!  : ) FROM 2016

I have worked with Make a Wish for several years now, and I began a letter writing campaign 7 years ago here in FUSD.  This campaign, created by Macy's offers $ to our local Make a Wish Chapter (Greater Bay Area Chapter).  For each letter written & delivered to Macy's in December, Macy's will donate $1.00!

Thus far, I have been very blessed to get the support of most of the schools in our school district, including both directors of elementary and secondary education, along with our previous Superintendent, Dr. Jim Morris to help and support the cause.  My Make a Wish crew members, along with myself, personally go to each site, collect and count all the letters, and deliver them to Macy's on "Believe Day."  Granting a child's wish involves many people, and costs about $8,000.00.  In the past five years, we have been able to make dozens of wishes come true for these children, and their families. PLEASE, get behind me, our district, and show that we stand for taking a few minutes to offer hope, strength and joy to a child battling a life threatening illness!

Join us in this fantastic cause, and write letters with your children this holiday season!

Please view the attached Oakland Warrior Wish below... and see why we "make a wish!"

Thank You

Treasures Unit 3 Project (Me, Myself & I)

This is our third project of the year for our Treasures (Language Arts Program), Unit 3, titled "Let's Create."  This project will take the information we have been learning in class and encourage my students to apply their knowledge by being creative and expressive.  This project includes three key elements: 1.  A poem about themselves.  2. An autobiography & 3.  A poster that represents them.  (All of these items will be combined and included in their final poster which they will present in front of their classmates.  Please assist your child with this project, but DO NOT do the work for them.  This is their time to work and be creative.  This project is meant to be fun, challenging, and comprehensive in its scope.

Book-Ball book report

Read a story of your choice, fiction or non fiction!  Have fun with this artistic and creative way to collect all the information you need for your book report!  Be sure to complete a few of your pentagons each night and glue 2 or 3 together.  Continue to add 2 or 3 to your growing circle, until the ball is complete.  It is mandatory that you start working on this assignment the day it is given.  You have 6 days to complete it, and with 12 pentagons to attach, I suggest a minimum 3 each night to get it done in the time allowed.

Look at the attached link for photo samples of how your Book-Ball should look, as well as to review the directions for your assignment. The more colorful your Book-Ball, the better!  The classroom will be decorated with all of the students' Book-Balls, hanging from the ceiling above each student desk!

Have fun!
